Living Here
Stormwater Park: shade and a seat by the water.

A small waterfront stop on Treasure Island, with a remarkable tree, a bench and a few things to know before you go.
Keep reading ↓The name sounds practical. The reason to visit is simpler: a little shade, a place to sit and the water right in front of you.
A quiet stop on West Treasure Drive.
- Where
- West Treasure Drive · Treasure Island · North Bay Village
- Hours on the sign
- Sunrise to sunset. Photographed September 14, 2026.
- What we found
- Mature trees, shade, a metal bench, patchy grass and a view across the water.
- Ground and waterfront
- The photos show grass and sandy ground leading toward an unguarded seawall edge. A paved accessible route, restrooms and dedicated visitor parking were not confirmed.
Look for the Stormwater Park sign. The May 19, 2026 Village Commission agenda places the project on West Treasure Drive; we have not verified a visitor street number.
What is that enormous tree?
It appears to be a ficus, or fig tree. The broad canopy, smooth pale trunk and intertwined roots are useful clues, but these wide photographs are not enough for a confident species identification.
Indian laurel fig (Ficus microcarpa) is one possibility. UF/IFAS describes its glossy leaves and aerial roots. A closer look at the leaves and fruit, or confirmation from an arborist, would help distinguish it from other ficus species.

The Jacob family’s invitation to sit.
The bench has a small plaque that turns an ordinary seat into a neighbor’s gift. Our visit record includes this transcription of the inscription: “This bench was Donated By The Jacob Family Life is Ruff... Just Relax.”
Look up from the lettering and the bay does the rest. The shade, the water and that gentle nudge to relax are a good reason to pause. We have not yet documented the family’s wider story or the date of the donation.

Read the sign before settling in.
The sign photographed September 14 lists no barbecues, alcoholic beverages, loud music, skates, skateboards or bikes. It also prohibits pets, including emotional support dogs, while permitting service animals as defined by the Department of Justice.

For a dog outing, the Village lists its Dog Park at 7903 East Drive on Harbor Island.
Could you fish here?
The view made me wonder, but I have not confirmed permission to fish at this park. The sign shown here does not settle that question. Ask the Village before planning a fishing visit.
